Spring Break Modeling: High School & College Girls

Spring break is a well-earned rest from hard studying for hundreds of thousands of students in the U.S. Recent years have seen locations for the week-long party scenes move from domestic to more exotic locations, so much the better for the hundreds of photo sessions that take place at this time. Television coverage and social network coordinating have rendered the most popular U.S. locations too busy for some, with huge amounts of sponsorship from MTV, Coca-Cola and other beverage manufacturers. Each brand hosts its own parties and competitions, with winners gaining featured photographs in calendars, magazines and on websites.

Dates vary, with each college, but generally spring break is between the last weeks of February, extending to approximately the middle of April. Hotels in the most popular locations may be booked well in advance and may require extra deposits, especially from younger guests. If hitting all the local bikini contests is part of your plan for spring break, make sure you are prepared, by physically looking your best, choosing swimwear carefully that suits your body type, and if you are under 18, know that any legal paperwork requires the signature of a parent of guardian to be binding.

Model Search

Taking along at least one friend, or going as a group gives more security, never agree to meet any photographers in remote locations, or alone. Many scammers take advantage of the party atmosphere to prey on unsuspecting aspiring models, both on location and by email, so if an offer comes to your inbox and looks too good to be true, it probably is some form of fake scheme, and should be ignored.

The best place to research possibilities for photography contests and shoots is at your university, and by word of mouth. Try scanning notice boards for the most popular contests, and asking clubs and friends who have been involved in this activity.

Social networking on all of the biggest sites is a sure fire way to meet up with other models and photographers heading to contests over the spring break period. Keeping a current profile with some of your best photographs lets the world know who you are and what you look like. A pretty face is only the start; many models are successful because of good communication skills and the energy and attitude they project. Reputable model sites, with social features and forums are great resources for all levels of girls seeking modeling experience and work. Many forums post details of the best contests to enter and what the requirements will be. Photography clubs run their own events during this time, so some hours spent in online research will give you an idea of what is happening at your chosen resort.

As some U.S. cities have recently discouraged students from visiting their towns during spring break, finding the numbers unmanageable and turned their focus to a more family-orientated type of guest, spring break revelers have moved to resorts further away from home. This requires more planning for travel and a valid passport. Leaving an exact itinerary with friends or family members and avoiding areas like Mexico's border towns, where violence between drug gangs has made these destinations less appealing, is a wise move. Many more options have opened up to entice the students to visit, offering lower priced complete packages and exotic backgrounds for photo shoots. These include ski destinations like Whistler Blackcomb, BC Canada, Winter Park, Colorado, Aspen, and Heavenly Valley, Lake Tahoe, Nevada. More spring break celebrants are heading to places like Santo Domingo, Cancun, Acapulco, and Puerto Vallarta, while the domestic resorts of South Padre Island, Texas and all the Florida locations still draw enthusiastic, but smaller crowds.
